Philip Harris Van de Graaff Generator (Hand Driven)
Product code: HE1008324
Product Description
This hand powered Van de Graaff Generator includes a 200mm diameter metal sphere and a 100mm discharging sphere.
The discharge sphere is supported on a pivoted arm with a handle and is attached to the top of the driving-wheel pillar.
For connecting accessories, a 4mm socket is provided at the top of the large sphere, and a 4mm earth socket is drilled in the handwheel pillar base.
Sparks in excess of 50mm in length are easily obtained at a slow rate of turning (200 rev/min) and the apparatus is tolerant of moisture and dust.
- Diameter of Dome: 200mm
- Diameter of Discharge Sphere: 100mm
- Overall Dimensions: 350mm x 190mm x 480mm
- Voltage Developed: 150kV with a short circuit current of about 3 μA (depending upon atmospheric conditions)
- Supplied complete with instructions.
A Van de Graaff Accessory Kit is available to purchase separately (B8H26746).
Spares available:
- Spare Drive Belts: B8R08203 - Pack of 10
- Key Stage 3 to A-Level Physics: Static Electricity, Charge Conservation and Transfer, Triboelectric Effect (Charging by Friction), Ionisation
- Static Generators should only be operated by trained school personnel.
- The Generators should not be used by individuals who have a pacemaker or cochlear implant fitted.
- Van de Graaff Generators should not be operated in close proximity to electronic devices such as computers, mobile devices or electronic whiteboards.
