Our Philip Harris range of enzyme kits are ideal for project work by individual students or small groups of students.
This Pepsin Enzyme Project Pack contains all the reagents necessary to carry out experiments into the effect of pH and temperature on Pepsin.
The pack includes:
- Pepsin
- Exposed Film (50cm x 3.5cm)
- Buffer Solution pH1
- Buffer Powder pH2
- Buffer Powder pH3
- Buffer Powder pH4
- Buffer Powder pH5
- Full instructions
- Full supporting materials and instructions are included.
Possible experiments include:
- The Effect of pH on Pepsin
- The Effect of temperature on Pepsin
- GCSE to A-Level Biology: Enzyme Activity
Preparation required:
- 4% pepsin solution: Dissolve 36g pepsin powder in 800ml distilled water. Stir/shake the solution for 5 minutes and filter off any residual solids.
- Buffered pepsin solution pH1: Mix the contents of the bottle labelled "Buffer— pH1” with 90ml of the pepsin solution and label.
- Buffered pepsin solution pH2: Dissolve the buffer powder pH2 in 10ml distilled water and add 90ml pepsin solution. Label.
- Buffered pepsin solution pH3: Dissolve the buffer powder pH3 in 40ml distilled water and add 360ml pepsin solution. Label.
- Buffered pepsin solution pH4: Dissolve the buffer powder pH4 in 10ml distilled water and add 90ml pepsin solution. Label.
- Buffered pepsin solution pH5: Dissolve the buffer powder pH5 in 10ml distilled water and add 90ml pepsin solution. Label.
- Exposed film: cut the film into small pieces about 5mm square.
