Product Description
We reckon it’s a must-have! Strengthen pupils’ basic mathematic skills and support a deep knowledge of number with the Rekenrek Counting Frame from Hope Education. This simple yet versatile resource has powerful potential for children of all ages, making it an essential part of any teacher’s Maths toolkit.
Our Rekenrek Counting Frame consists of a sturdy, wooden frame and two rows of 10 beads, each comprised of 5 white beads and 5 red beads. This small-scale abacus is ideal for improving one-to-one correspondence, subitising skills and developing children’s understanding of number up to 10 or 20, including vital number bonds, addition and subtraction facts. What’s more, larger values can be assigned to the beads and rows to enable more complex calculations, making this resource fully adaptable to the unique needs of your learners. A wonderful way to embed concrete exploration, encourage independent learning and build children’s confidence in Maths lessons, we can’t recommend a Rekenrek enough!
What’s in the Box?
- 1 x Rekenrek (70mm x 70mm x 250mm)
- The Rekenrek was first developed by Adrian Treffers, a mathematician and curriculum researcher at the Freudenthal Institute in the Netherlands! The benefits of this resource are evidence-based and reliable.
- A Rekenrek is a key piece of concrete apparatus, particularly within a Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 learning environment, which supports you in teaching with the CPA approach (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) and promotes Maths mastery.
- This terrific tool is sure to strengthen basic number sense and mathematic fluency but it can also be used to create extensive reasoning and problem solving activities.
- Use in the EYFS to support children in working towards the Number and Numerical Patterns Early Learning Goals, for instance to develop a deep understanding of number up to 10, subitising up 5 and exploring patterns within numbers up to 10.
- Fantastic for Key Stage 1, for example to identify one more and one less than a given number, to represent and use number bonds to 20 and to add or subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers up to 20.
- Use across Key Stage 2 for more high-level thinking and activities. When larger values are assigned to the beads, pupils could use a Rekenrek to count in multiples of 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 25, 50, 100 or 1000.
